The Black Light Project

The light shines in the darkness...The darkness has never been able to put out the Light {1 John 1:5}.

Faced with the challenging narratives in the media, The Black Light Project presents the men who are the rule, not the exception. These are our fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, friends, our neighbors. They are Black and they light our world with kindness, fearlessness, perseverance, love, strength, humanity.

I am a wife and the proud mother of 5 sons whose ages range from 16 to 3 years old; not to mention 3 daughters. I see Black men in a very positive light and it burdens me to see that the sharp contrast between our reality and how Black men are portrayed in the media.

Why THe project...

My 2 oldest sons sat with me when the Trayvon Martin verdict was handed down. We cried together that night. I looked at them and wanted the world to see them the way I saw them. I know every mother, wife, friend, etc. wants the world to see the black man or black boy they know and love, the way they do.

VISIONARY...

I don't believe it is enough to change the paradigm in my own world. My belief system dictates that I reach the world in every interaction, one person at a time. I am fortunate that through The Black Light Project I get to touch 16 lives at once and allow them to see that they are a light everywhere that they go.
