Media

From PBS to YouTube, The Black Light Project is alive with media projects. It is where we thrive. Find episodes and more, here. We produce our own media to share the narratives of people within the communities we serve. What is more powerful? Almost nothing. We are thrilled when the media knocks on our door to get our story. Our work is moving and crucial as we seek to amplify voices of truth and joy.

The Black Light Project YouTube Series: As a part of the visual arts project, we developed a series featuring the men who participated in the project, as well as special episodes featuring Black businesses and Black artists.

Meet Sienna Morgan and Jamil Burton of Rocky Mount. As a part of our work in Rocky Mount, we sought to feature not only the amazing me that live in the area; but also the artists that make it beautiful in their own unique way. Sienna is an author who was inspired to write about the Project. Hear her in her own words. Jamil is an art instructor and uses his skill of painting to make the world more colorful and beautiful.

Media Features

Our Project has been featured on several media outlets highlighting the important work of using media to challenge and shift narratives in the Black community.

The Black Light Project, in partnership with the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, is creating 8 art installations across the city of Rocky Mount. These banners will highlight 8 Black males who are role models in the community, helping to spark a healthy dialogue and challenging existing negative narratives about the lives of Black males.

Rocky Mount’s City Beat talks to Tonya Lynch, creator of The Black Light Project about the work in Rocky Mount.

Through the Black Light Project Tonya J. Lynch set out to challenge existing narratives about Black males in her community. The Black Light Project, a photography and documentary endeavor, reminds us that these sons, brothers, husbands, fathers, friends and neighbors are shining lights in their families, communities and beyond.
